
Five Nights at Epstein’s is a traditional survival horror game with five nights of surveillance. Players are locked in a room and must monitor threats through fixed security cameras. Time in the game flies by, bringing you constant anxiety as threats escalate. Waiting is tedious. Unlike the slow pace of traditional horror games, this waiting pace makes you one of the sources of anxiety.
Multitasking and prioritizing are key to survival in Five Nights at Epstein’s. Players switch between cameras to monitor enemy movement while playing lure audio clips to entice threats to other areas. On the other hand, using too many lure audio clips can cause system crashes, causing your cameras to stop working and leaving your house vulnerable to attack.
There is also a new difficulty level involving managing the ventilation system. Sealing the vents will block attacks but consume oxygen, so players must open them early. On the other hand, system errors often need to be manually reset from the control panel – sometimes at the most inopportune moments.
When every 24 minutes is shortened to seconds, hesitation is rarely rewarded.
